Rihanna Team Promises “Big Beats and Big Bass” on Next LP

Rihanna has recruited Justin Timberlake and Chase & Status to serve as producers for the follow-up to her multiplatinum Good Girl Gone Bad, and now both JT and the U.K. dance duo are giving a progress report on what we can expect from Rihanna in the near future. “In my opinion, she’s got the world in the palm of her hand right now, based on her success with her last record,” Timberlake told Access Hollywood before the Emmys. “The stuff we’ve come up with in the studio, it’s the next step for her. It’s a little more grown up. It’s got some edge to it.”

Chase & Status’ Saul Milton and Will Kennard have had a pair of sessions with Rihanna and describe the “Umbrella” singer as very professional and a “really cool girl, down to earth.” They also label her as someone who knows what she wants, musically. “When she doesn’t like something she’ll let you know. When she likes something she’ll let you know as well,” Milton told the BBC. “On one track she came up with some cool melodies and cool ideas, the kind of vibe she wanted. This album for her is just about what she likes and what she’s into and what she wants. If she’s not into the vibe she’ll be like, ‘Nope, I don’t think it’s for me.’ ” The pair also promise their “trademark big beats and big bass” on their Rihanna cuts.
