New Music Report: Avett Brothers, Plus La Roux

Rolling Stone’s Kevin O’Donnell spotlights the Avett Brothers’ major-label debut, I and Love and You, in this week’s roundup of essential new releases. The North Carolina trio get an assist from Rick Rubin on the disc, which results in polished songs including upbeat jams and pretty piano ballads, like the title track, which shows off brothers Scott and Seth Avett’s Beatlesque harmonies.

Adam Lambert’s debut album isn’t due out until November 24th, but already the RS cover star is Number One on Amazon.com. Four days after the pre-order option was made available on Lambert’s still-untitled disc, or New Album 2009 as Amazon calls it, the American Idol runner-up is tops on Amazon’s Bestsellers list, ahead of new releases by Mariah Carey, Madonna, the Beatles and more. For five years, Metallica’s own LiveMetallica Website has offered up high-quality downloads of the band’s concerts spanning from 1982 to their current World Magnetic tour. However, fans were only able to purchase concerts as a whole, as opposed to the a la carte song options popularized by iTunes.
