Rewind: The Week in Rock Daily

January 8th, 2010
Photo: Carr/Getty In an exclusive Q&A with Rolling Stone, Jack White talked about the 2000s — a decade that saw him front the White Stripes, Raconteurs and Dead Weather — the decline of the music industry and a possible solo LP. The new decade started in the grungiest way possible as two ’90s acts announced their triumphant returns: Soundgarden revealed that “school is back in session” and Courtney Love officially resurrected Hole by scheduling gigs in ...

January 8th, 2010
Photo: Sardella/WireImage When Rolling Stone’s Brian Hiatt chatted with global party-starter M.I.A. for our decade-end issue (read his Q&A here), the 34-year-old singer revealed that after five months of work, she was putting finishing touches on her follow-up to Kala, due this summer. She did much of the recording with producer Blaqstarr, who she says “simply makes music that sounds good, and I needed that. I definitely needed to come to music on this album, to ...

Is Leaving “Jersey Shore” Like Quitting the Beatles? Rob Sheffield on America’s Inner Guido

January 8th, 2010
Photo: MTV Like the rest of America, the Rolling Stone crew is addicted to MTV’s latest reality circus Jersey Shore, starring eight “guidos” and “guidettes” in search of love, parties and hair gel while sharing a beach house in New Jersey’s Seaside Heights. In addition to introducing us to characters like Snooki and Pauly D, practically every sentence uttered by this over-tanned crew is worthy of Bartlett’s Book of Quotations. For instance, when asked by In ...

Animal Collective Premiere Trippy “Brother Sport” Video

January 8th, 2010
The video for Animal Collective’s “Brother Sport,” the epic closing track from Merriweather Post Pavilion, was unveiled this morning on the band’s My Animal Home Website. Much like MPP itself, the “Brother Sport” video is a kaleidoscopic odyssey, featuring psychedelic animations, children straight out of Where the Wild Things Are running around meadows, neon interludes and the most insane Easter Egg painting session ever, all paced to the tribal beat of the six-and-a-half minute track. ...
