Last week, to mourn the end of summer but honor the nationwide pursuit of higher education, we asked for readers’ favorite School Songs. The beginning of September may mark the onset of a new school year, but Alice Cooper’s summertime classic “School’s Out” is still tops, barely edging Van Halen’s ode to sexy chalk wielders “Hot For Teacher.” Tracks from Nirvana, the Beach Boys and Paul Simon also made the Rock List, which you can check out below:

1. Alice Cooper – “School’s Out”
2. Van Halen – “Hot For Teacher”
3. Pink Floyd – “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2″
4. Nirvana – “School”
5. The Replacements – “Fuck School”
6. The Smiths – “The Headmaster Ritual”
7. The Beach Boys – “Be True To Your School”
8. Paul Simon – “Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard”
