  • Garbage’s Shirley Manson underwent a motion-capture session to become a playable character in Guitar Hero 5 for “I’m Only Happy When It Rains.” “The obsessiveness of being in a band catches on fire to those who play the game too,” she says in a new video explaining her role.

  • Legendary jazz master George Russell has died at age 86 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease, the AP reports. In 1953, Russell published The Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization, a theoretical text credited with influencing Miles Davis’ “Kind of Blue.”
  • Fresh Cuts Volume 4, a new compilation of music by Guitar Center employees (hand picked by Weezer) will feature “Everybody Go Away,” an unreleased Weezer tune from sessions for their 2001 Green Album.
  • Backstreet’s back … again. Backstreet Boys’ This Is Us will drop October 6th and feature Lady Gaga producer RedOne as well as T-Pain.
