New Weezer “Close To a Wrap,” “Pinkerton” Reissue On the Way

Things had been all quiet on the Weezer front recently, but the band ended their silence this weekend with a monster post on their official Website preparing fans for both Weezer’s seventh album and a deluxe version of their classic Pinkerton. “The bands 7th album, title TBA, is pretty close to a wrap now (after a mild false alarm back in the spring), though there is some work yet remaining to be done. There have also been some other special Weezer studio recordings done recently,” the band writes. Weezer hint at a “to-be-announced special non-physical release” as well as plans to release the upcoming album’s first single and video.

While the album’s title is still unknown, popular colors not yet used by Weezer for eponymous releases include yellow, purple, orange and white. Weezer will play one of their new songs, “She Got Hot,” in concert in Japan next week, the band’s official Twitter revealed. The Weezer Tweeter hosted a contest to see if fans could guess the new song title, with one fan winning one of those in-demand Weezer Snuggies.

As for that Pinkerton deluxe edition reissue, the band didn’t provide much details. The band’s second album was the product of Rivers Cuomo’s originally planned space opera Songs From the Black Hole, so there’s probably plenty of unreleased material from those sessions that didn’t wind up on Cuomo’s own Alone collections.
