Weezer return with their new album Raditude today — with or without a Snuggie. As Rob Sheffield writes in his three-and-a-half star review, since Pinkerton, “to a casual fan, each Weezer album sounds pretty great, and each Weezer album sounds exactly like the last one. But to a true Weezer cultist, each is a shameful betrayal of everything ‘El Scorcho’ stood for.” The same can be said of Raditude, which finds Weezer collaborating with Jermaine Dupri and Lil Wayne on the party-hearty yet melancholy “Can’t Stop Partying” and turning out a dance-pop track called “I’m Your Daddy.” Raditude is gloriously cheesy, an LP old-school Weezer heads and new fans should both enjoy.
The Rolling Stones’ live Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out! The Rolling Stones in Concert – 40th Anniversary Deluxe Box Set earned the distinction of a perfect five-star review from Rolling Stone. The reissue documents the Stones’ 1969 concerts at New York’s Madison Square Garden and includes five more songs from the shows, plus a third disc of performances from openers B.B. Nirvana’s debut album Bleach (Deluxe Edition) also arrives as a reissue this week. The album boasts remastered sound and a bonus disc featuring a 1990 concert of Kurt Cobain and company performing in Portland, Oregon. The reissue garnered a four-star review, and Will Hermes writes Bleach’s “near-greatness is plain, most clearly on ‘About a Girl,’ in the abraded Lennon-McCartney chord changes, and in the existential grunge howl of ‘School.’ ”
