It’s been nearly five years since Missy Elliott’s last album, The Cookbook, was released, and her new LP Block Party was postponed yet again this summer. But a preview of the record’s potential first single has leaked: “All 4 U,” featuring the king of cameos, Lil Wayne. The track streaming on Nah Right sounds like an unfinished version of “All 4 U” — the long instrumental outro following Wayne’s verse sounds like it’s awaiting additional Missy vocals. But even this rough sketch boasts a steady beat that’s a combo of P-Funk, G-Funk and Dam-Funk.

In a June 2009 interview with ELLE, Elliott revealed that Weezy would be making an appearance on Block Party, saying, “There are a lot of great collaborations on the record, but I can only give one away right now, and that’s Lil Wayne. He’s a person who I think is really deserving of the success he’s had. I’m someone who can stay in the studio 24-7, and I’ve watched him stay in there just as long. He has a creativeness about him that I love.”

Like Wayne’s Rebirth, which has been postponed so many times that even distributors didn’t know when it was supposed to be released, Elliott’s Block Party has also been pushed back repeatedly. The album was scheduled for December 2007 and then January 2008, when original first single “Ching-a-Ling” was released (It instead popped up on the Step Up 2 soundtrack). In the ELLE interview, Elliott said Block Party would be out in Autumn 2009, but that obviously didn’t happen, and the target date was moved to January 2010.

In the meantime, like Rebirth, potential songs from the disc continue to leak, like “Best Best,” “Act a Fool” and “Put It on Ya.”...
