If Britney Spears’ life seems stranger than fiction, maybe that’s because most of what is reported about the pop star is actually untrue. To prove her point, the official Britney Spears Website posted something they’re calling “The BS Alert,” featuring 75 screen caps of headlines about Spears that turned out to be complete fabrications. It seems there’s an entire industry of gossip papers that make a living reporting fake news concerning the Circus star, so it’s funny to see Spears’ camp exact revenge by calling the Websites’ bluffs. (Of course, Spears did a good job keeping legitimate nutty headline writers in business for much of 2007 and 2008. Among the “bullshit” headlines concerning Spears in 2009 are reports that Brit was dating a Bollywood choreographer, a backup dancer, producer Dallas Austin, Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden and countless more faux beaus. There’s also numerous reports from Down Under after Spears’ recent controversy, with the Aussie press claiming Brit was having another breakdown and that her audience was ditching her Circus performances midway through the show. After what could be a deemed an insane 2007/08 for Spears, it does seem like any of these stories are plausible, but mostly they’re not. Decipher the truth from the fiction over at the BS Alert.
