British rockers Art Brut, fronted by the hilarious Eddie Argos, stopped by Rolling Stone recently to share some acoustic versions of songs off their new album Art Brut Vs. Satan. Above is Argos’s ode to a woman named “Emily Kane,” a tale of unrequited love complete with a nod to the Smiths’ classic “There Is a Light and It Never Goes Out.”

For their third album, the band recruited the Pixies’ Frank Black to serve as producer, putting the emphasis on catchy post-punk and not sleek production—Argos calls out super-producer Brian Eno on the band’s new LP. Argos’s lyrics touch upon topics like falling in love with the girl at the comic book store, growing old or just riding the bus, the subject of another song Art Brut played for RS, “The Passenger.” The band also busted out their song “Positively 5th St.,” the B-side to Art Brut Vs. Satan’s first single “Alcohol Unanimous.”

Art Brut are no strangers to this website, having previously given our readers relationship advice and featured in a recent segment of New Music Report. Art Brut are currently in Europe touring for their new LP, but they’ll make a brief U.S. cameo in Chicago on August 14th and 15th for a pair of shows at the Windy City’s Subterranean and the Green Festival before crossing back over the Atlantic. After the jump, check out the performances of “Positively 5th St.” and “The Passenger.”
