New Single Roundup: Black Keys, Gaslight Anthem, Stone Temple Pilots, Broken Social Scene

Christina Aguilera had promised a big announcement today, but when 12 pm rolled around, her website revealed the name and cover art of her next single “Not Myself Tonight,” but no music. However, a trio of rock bands did unleash new tracks on the Net today: the Black Keys, the Gaslight Anthem and Stone Temple Pilots, who will all be releasing fresh albums this spring.

The Black Keys, whose sixth album Brothers is due out May 18th, posted “Tighten Up” on their MySpace. The track, like their previous album Attack and Release, was produced by Danger Mouse, though the rest of the album was handled by the Keys themselves. “Tighten Up” continues the blues-and-beats blueprint the Keys’ mapped out with Attack, with some of the Muscle Shoals flavor that band picked up by recording at the famed Alabama studio.

The Gaslight Anthem’s third album American Slang, the follow-up to their breakout disc The ‘59 Sound, is due out June 15th, and the Jersey rockers are giving fans a taste of the title track on their Facebook page. Fans of the ‘59 Sound will be more than satisfied with the new tune, as singer Brian Fallon and company keep their Springsteen roots intact while scaling back on their punk edge for a more anthemic sound.

Stone Temple Pilots’ “Between the Lines,” the first single from their upcoming self-titled new album, is also out now. But in order to listen to STP’s first new track since 2001’s Shangri-La Dee Da on their official website, the band expects you to 1) have a Twitter account and 2) be willing to broadcast a tweet relaying news of “Between the Lines” to your followers.
