AC/DC have finally announced the details of their upcoming Backtracks box set, a 3-disc/2-DVD/1-vinyl collection so massive it has to be housed inside a guitar amplifier. That’s right, this box set doubles as a working amp. Get your credit card information ready because there’s only 50,000 of these bad boys being produced exclusively through the AC/DC Website. Backtracks will be unleashed November 10th.

First, the CDs: Disc One will boast 18 studio outtakes featuring songs that have appeared on 12”, tour editions and the Australian versions of some AC/DC albums. All the tracks have been remastered and make their CD debut. Next up is two CDs stocked with live rarities spanning from 1977 to 2000. The first DVD will contain the music-video collection Family Jewels 3, featuring all the band’s vids from “Big Gun” to Black Ice, while the second DVD has a 2003 concert from Munich, Germany. Finally, the 180-gram audiophile vinyl will feature 12 of Disc One’s studio rarities.

Also stored inside the vintage working amplifier — which is designed after Angus Young’s graffiti covered 1975 speaker cabinets — is a 164-page coffee table book complete with rare photos, a guitar pick, reproductions of posters, tour flyers and studio track sheets, an “I Do It For AC/DC” pin and much more. There’s even a temporary tattoo that mirrors Bon Scott’s famed parrot “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” tattoo. For AC/DC fans, this is pretty much the Holy Grail.

Backtracks sports a $199 price tag, but considering that an amp will usually set you a few, an amp packed with AC/DC goodies seems worth the price of admission. For the more casual fan, however, there is a “standard version” also available, featuring 2CDs and 1 DVD. You can pick up that version via the AC/DC sit...
