Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo was released from an Albany, New York, hospital on Friday (December 11th), six days after his tour bus crashed on its way to Boston, leaving the frontman with cracked ribs and internal injuries. Band pal Karl Koch reports that Cuomo and the rest of the group are taking a marathon two-day bus trip back to Los Angeles armed with “Mad Men DVDs, meditation, medication, naps, Amy’s Organic frozen entrees [and] ice cream sandwiches.” As RS previously reported, the accident led Weezer to cancel their remaining December tour dates, and Koch says January shows may be in peril too: “Note that while nothing has been made official yet, it looks like most of the January Weezer shows will also have to be rescheduled to give Rivers the full time the docs say he shouldn’t be jumping around.”

Cuomo was released after undergoing a battery of blood tests Thursday and opted to brave the trip out West on a tour bus due to medical concerns. “One of the strict doctors orders is that Rivers cannot get on an airplane for a month, as the air pressure changes would be bad for his healing punctured lung,” Koch explains. “So there’s only one other quick way to get him home to L.A., and that’s a tour bus.”

Another Koch blog post from this weekend contains a fresh image of a recovering Cuomo in his hospital room, playing a carbon fiber acoustic guitar lent to him by his doctor.
