Two LAPD officers have been placed on leave following an internal investigation into how a photograph of a battered Rihanna from her February 8th altercation with Chris Brown somehow fell into the hands of gossip site TMZ.com, the Los Angeles Times reports. Sources identify the two officers as nine-year vet Rebecca M. Reyes and rookie officer Blanca Lopez, who was a roommate of Reyes. No charges have yet been filed in the case. The LAPD aren’t discussing the investigation, calling it “a personal matter” according to the LAT, so they wouldn’t specify who possibly took the photograph, whether LAPD equipment was used and if the photo was sold for profit.

A lawyer for Reyes told the LAT, “My client did not do anything for financial gain. She did not sell the photo.” Both officers have been “assigned to home” until the investigation has been completed. As Rolling Stone previously reported, the leaked photograph was often cited by Chris Brown’s lawyer Mark Geragos as a factor that would prevent his client from getting a fair trial. Brown eventually pleaded guilty to felony assault, avoiding a trial by accepting a sentence of five years probation and 180 days of physical labor.
