Slash Says Velvet Revolver Singer Search Will Continue

Slash issued an update this weekend concerning the future of Velvet Revolver, saying that the band will continue to hunt for a new lead singer but any new music likely won’t come until after next summer. Slash is currently at work on his new solo album, and will likely begin touring that album with a trek that kicks off next spring and concludes next summer. However, Slash said he would prioritize Velvet Revolver in his plans if the right singer came along.

“My VR bandmates and I had a meeting a couple of weeks ago and although the search for a singer will continue, I am going to tour on my solo record most likely through next summer starting in March or April. We will keep the word of mouth system going and listening to submissions from singers and checking out different singers’ sites etc,” Slash wrote in a MySpace blog post yesterday. “We (VR) know the right guy is out there somewhere. It’s possible somebody could turn up before I do my tour and we could start working on new material sooner than later, in a perfect world.”

As Rock Daily reported last month, Velvet Revolver seem like they’re in no rush to recruit a singer, preferring to wait for the right person to step into the vacancy that was left after Scott Weiland split with the band due to what the band described as “increasingly erratic onstage behavior and personal problems.” Duff McKagan has been busy touring with his side project Loaded while Slash has been hard at work on his solo album, which the Guns n’ Roses guitarist said in yesterday’s posting that he’ll start mixing in September.

McKagan told Rolling Stone in April that the band thought they had found their Weiland replacement, prompting the band to exclaim that they were “weeks away” from announcing their new vocalist. How...
