• In an exclusive Q&A with Rolling Stone, Jack White talked about the 2000s — a decade that saw him front the White Stripes, Raconteurs and Dead Weather — the decline of the music industry and a possible solo LP.

• The new decade started in the grungiest way possible as two ’90s acts announced their triumphant returns: Soundgarden revealed that “school is back in session” and Courtney Love officially resurrected Hole by scheduling gigs in Europe.
• A snippet of a Michael Jackson-Lenny Kravitz collaboration called “Another Day” mysteriously leaked and was yanked from the Net. Plus, one Los Angeles taxpayer sought payment for Michael’s memorial and prosecutors closed in on manslaughter charges for Dr. Conrad Murray.
• It was a close battle, but Taylor Swift’s Fearless narrowly outsold Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed a Dream for the distinction of top-selling album of 2009. Boyle settled instead for the first Number One album of 2010. Plus, while music purchases increased in 2009, CD sales were way down while digital sales reached new highs.
