Lollapalooza organizers have added another letter to their Wheel of Fortune-style lineup puzzle: R. The new clue has helped reveal a new host of potential acts, including Green Day, Arcade Fire, Social Distortion, Grizzly Bear and Wolfmother. As Rolling Stone reported yesterday, the Chicago fest, taking place at Grant Park August 6-8th, officially announces its lineup on April 6th, but until then its organizers are toying with fans by revealing the roster one letter at a time. Soundgarden, Phoenix and the Strokes were revealed as headliners thanks to some strategically placed Os, and Hot Chip, Chromeo and Spoon also seem to be on the bill.

Look back at Lolla ’09’s best live shots.

Yesterday, we joked that the five-letter/three-letter artist on the top line could be Pearl Jam instead of rumored headliner Green Day, but the R in Green Day nixes that option. The Rs also reveal that Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Dirty Projectors and Lady Gaga’s touring mates Semi Precious Weapons are likely to rock the fest. And even though there are no Rs or Os in her name, Lady Gaga is expected to headline Lollapalooza.

Farther down the lineup, the three-letter artist listed on the right of the fifth row seems like too low of a billing on the lineup to be M.I.A., who has a new album out this summer, so we’re going to bank on AFI, Green Day’s opening act, filling in that spot. Over at Perry Farrell’s DJ stage, Empire of the Sun, Flosstradamus and Farrell himself are tabbed to appear.

Our commentors are assuming that, based on blank letters, X Japan, Jimmy Cliff, Yeasayer and Slightly Stoopid are other artists set to Lollapalooza, but we’ll hold out for more letters before setting that in stone. Check out the Lollapalooza site and leave your guesses in our comments.
