Huey Lewis Carries the Weight of “The World” in Kimmel Clip

When the “We Are the World 25 For Haiti” video premiered, listeners griped that the new rendition is lacking in the rock department and doesn’t feature artists who appeared on the 1985 version. It appears Jimmy Kimmel has heard similar complaints, as the late-night host convinced Huey Lewis, a veteran of the original “We Are the World,” to reenter the Henson Recording Studio — all by himself — to record a new, solitary version of the song titled “I Am the One.”

Lewis’ new lyrics reflect his disappointment at not being invited to record on the new track; they gave actor Vince Vaughn a prime spot in the chorus, but they couldn’t make room for the News’ frontman? All joking aside, the end of the video encourages people to visit World 25 to download the real version of the new “We Are the World,” and not the “Huey for Haiti” version.
