“There is no Relapse 2,” Eminem wrote on Twitter in the wee hours of this morning, effectively putting to rest any chance that the promised sequel to his 2009 comeback album Relapse will be released in the near future — if ever. The rapper didn’t indicate whether another fresh album would replace the disc or if he’s simply scrapped plans for a new LP entirely. However, as Rolling Stone previously reported, Slim Shady tweeted last month, “Don’t worry. Some big news is coming. Soon,” so it’s still likely Eminem has something brewing. UPDATE: Eminem Announce New Album Recovery Out June 22nd

Just over 13 months ago Eminem promised the release of Relapse and Relapse 2 in 2009. The Dr. Dre-produced Relapse arrived in May, but its sequel was pushed back to 2010 as Eminem began working with producers like Just Blaze and Mr. Porter. Instead, Eminem released Relapse: Refill, consisting of leftovers from the Relapse sessions, to “tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year,” Eminem said. “I got back in with Dre and then a few more producers, including Just Blaze, and went in a completely different direction which made me start from scratch. The new tracks started to sound very different than the tracks I originally intended to be on Relapse 2, but I still want the other stuff to be heard.”

News of Relapse 2’s demise comes just a week after Dr. Dre revealed that his own long-in-the-works comeback album Detox will “definitely” come out in 2010.
