Apple Plans September 9th Event: Beatles Finally Coming to iTunes?

Each September brings a buzz-worthy Apple media event where Steve Jobs and Co. unveil the company’s newest gadgets and software. The invitation for this year’s September 9th press conference boasts the tagline “It’s only rock & roll, but we like it,” obviously an homage to the Rolling Stones’ “It’s Only Rock n’ Roll (But I Like It).” While Apple is expected to reveal the newest line of iPods at the conference, the September 9th date is notable because it’s also the same day the Beatles’ Rock Band and their remastered catalog are released, a catalog that has long been rumored to finally be coming to the iTunes music store.

Apple junkies, like the people who occupy the Mac Rumors forums, are already predicting that on September 9th an Apple rep will take the stage to announce that Beatles’ catalog is coming to iTunes. However, Apple’s riff on the Stones’ song title for the conference’s catchphrase is a little curious. “It’s Only Rock n’ Roll” is either being used to put the Beatles rumors to rest, or as a red herring to get people off the Fab Four scent. Or it’s maybe just a catchy slogan that doesn’t need over-analyzing. As Rock Daily reported two years ago, people were predicting that the Beatles were coming to iTunes at the 2007 conference as well, so we’ll have to find out until next week for the real deal.

Outside of the Beatles remasters, Apple will likely announce new models of iPod Touches and Nanos with higher storage capacity and bigger screens and, possibly, video and digital camera features. Other predictions for the Apple event include the announcement of iTunes 9.0, the Cocktail software that Apple was reportedly developing, advancements to AppleTV and, doubtfully, the rumored Apple tablet.
