Aerosmith have canceled the remainder of their summer tour due to injuries Steven Tyler sustained after falling from the stage at a concert in South Dakota on August 5th. An announcement on the band’s Aero Force One site says that doctors advised Tyler to properly recover from his injuries — a broken shoulder and 20 stitches to the back of his head — and that the band wants to give Tyler enough time to recuperate.

“Words can’t express the sadness I feel for having to cancel this tour,” guitarist Joe Perry said. “We hope we can get the Aerosmith machine up and running again as soon as possible.”

As Rock Daily previously reported, Aerosmith’s sound system failed during their performance of “Love In An Elevator” in Sturgis, South Dakota (there had been a thunderstorm that delayed the show an hour), so Tyler began dancing on to keep the crowd enthused. “I wanted to go out to the crowd to continue the show… so, the Train Kept A- Rollin’ and I ran out on the catwalk and grabbed my mic to finish the song,” Tyler said in a statement following the tour’s cancellation. “I was doing the Tyler shuffle and then I zigged when I should have zagged…AND I slipped, and as I live on the edge…I fell off the edge!”

While Tyler sustained injuries, the frontman is just “grateful” he didn’t break his neck in the incident. Tyler goes on to thank the fans, their crew, everyone in Sturgis and “the doctors and nurses at the Rapid City Hospital for putting my Humpty Dumpty ass back together again.” Fans who bought tickets for any of Aerosmith’s upcoming or previously postponed concerts are asked to get their refunds at their point of purchase.
